2017 COMPETITION PROGRAMME 2017 LEADERBOARD

STORMIN NORMAN WINS ANOTHER ONE ON HARRAY

This  early morning competition on Harray, fished last Sunday, is very popular with anglers, and an increased entry of 29 set off at 7am, with a stiff north westerly breeze and full cloud cover. Most anglers seemed to be set up for fishing the deeper water, but it turned out that there were other options, as is often the case on Harray.
Ballarrat, Bochan, and the Ess Holms were hard fished for the first hour or two but were not that productive and anglers soon spread out, prospecting for feeding fish. Consistent sport was hard to find in the deep water, with long spells of zero action. Those who chose to head inshore and to the lee shore fared much better, and a change to Hedgehogs on the top of the water paid great dividends.

Top Rod Norman Irvine

Norman Irvine and John Leask were two anglers who cracked it on the day, both taking 14 fish to the scales. Unusually, they started off on differing tactics, with Norman on the Sweep 7 and mini lures and John on the Hogs. They went fish for fish until a double header from John convinced Norman to change to Hogs, they continued to catch steadily and it was only Norman's better quality fish which tipped the balance in his favour, his 14 for 10lb 1oz beating John’s 14 for 9lb 7ozs, to secure the Tommy Thomson Trophy.Others who found fish were Jimmy Grant with 11 for 8lb 1oz, Kenny Adam with 11 for 7lb 15ozs and Ken Kennedy with 10 for 7lb 12ozs. Heaviest fish was one at 1lb 10ozs from Jim Adams.
Tactics were either Hedgehogs on floating or intermediate lines and mini lures on the sinking lines. Hedgehogs were mainly orange, with fiery brown and claret also mentioned. On the heavier kit, it was primarily Erlends Cat, with the Hulk,  Merky Maid Hulk and various other mini lures, basically black and green, taking their share.
Norman Irvine has now taken an almost unassailable lead in the league table, but you never know, and there a few anglers who won't have written it off yet.
It's back to Boardhouse for an evening competition in just over a week's time, and that could be tricky!
