Top Rod Sandy McConnachie

BACK TO BACK WINS FOR MCCONNACHIE SENIOR ON BOARDHOUSE

It’s Boardhouse Loch and you just never know what you are going to get. Light winds, overcast skies, it looked good for the 11am start last Sunday but nobody consulted the trout. It turned out to be a really hard day for many of the 29 anglers fishing for the Willie Windwick Cup, which has a draw for partners preceding match day.
There was a good spread of boats at the start, with the Tufta Shore, The Ink Bottle and the Barony end popular, but they were soon on the move looking for fish and at one time there were 9 or 10 boats fishing across the bottom shore, too much pressure for the area to work really.
Often, the first drift of the day is crucial on the smaller lochs, and so it proved for eventual winner, Sandy McConnachie who had 6 fish in the boat very quickly on a drift out from the Pumphouse, which he added to throughout the day finishing with an outstanding 13 fish for 9lb 7ozs, securing the Willie Windwick Cup. This was an exceptional basket on a day when there was actually a blank boat, with Messrs. Harcus and Bertram having a very relaxed day. A few others who did well included, Thorfinn Muir with 9 for 6lb, Phillipe Avril with 8 for 5lb 13ozs and Ken Kennedy also with 8 for 5lb 12ozs, which included heaviest fish of the day, a bonnie fish weighing 1lb 12ozs. Another point of note, young junior Josh Tulloch beat his old man Scott again weighing in two nice fish for 1lb 5ozs, well done!
Sandy made it back to back wins with a repeat performance of two weeks ago, fishing a floating line and Hedgehogs at the Pumphouse, with his boat partner for the day following his lead to good effect. Thorfinn fished wee midgey patterns on the top shore, with Greenwell’s and the Horrible Thing doing the business. Others caught on Dabblers and Hedgehogs in the usual colours, Orange, Claret and Fiery Brown.
With 10 competitions gone, and only 4 to go, Sandy McConnachie has secured a lead of 20 points on his closest rivals and will be hard to catch now. It’s back to a moody Harray a week on Wednesday, let’s hope the recent rain which has put the level back up a bit, freshens the fishing up a bit too, it’s been quite dour at times lately.
