IAN HUTCHEON WINS EUNSON CUP ON HARRAY
A strong NW wind and showers greeted the anglers last Wednesday night, fishing for the EUNSON Cup.
A good turnout of 28 anglers ploughed their way up the loch to seek shelter at Kirkness and Merkister Bay with a few dropping off at the Ess Holms, it was very busy at the first set of buoys at Merkister for the start at 6.30, but they soon spread out looking for feeding fish. Most anglers were fishing the shores, skerries and drop offs, with one or two braving the rollers coming down the loch in the deep water off Biggings. The wind eased slightly as the night wore on, in fact it turned out to be a nice fishing night and the fish were obviously up for it, so it was going to take a a good basket to take the spoils on the night.
The boat out in the deep water did very well, with Erlend Hutchison and James Bews finishing 2nd and 4th with 10 fish for 8lb 12ozs and 11 fish for 8lb 10ozs, respectively, Andrew Morgan was 3rd with 11 for 8lb 11ozs, but topping them all was Ian Hutcheon with a cracking basket of trout, 13 for 10lb 14ozs, winning him the Eunson Cup. Heaviest fish was a nice one going 1lb 10ozs to Kenny Adam’s rod.
Ian fished The Sword, Biggings and Ballarat over the course of the night, catching on hogs on a fast glass intermediate line, with Olive Hog his best fly. Erlend and James fished DI7 lines, with Erlends Cat being their top pattern.
Next, it’s the competition where the boat partners are drawn out of the hat, fished on Boardhouse on Sunday, tight lines.
