Tommy Thomson Trophy
HARD FISHING ON HARRAY AGAIN.
Some may think that catching a fish an hour in competition is easily achievable, but not on Harray these days, with one notable exception.
Bright sunshine and a brisk westerly winds were the conditions anglers faced last Sunday, fishing for the Tommy Thompson Trophy from 10am until 4pm. An increase in anglers to 27 was good to see, with the bulk of them heading north for the start. Ballarat, Bankhead and Merky Bay were popular but boats soon spread far and wide looking for trout willing to play.
The weigh in proved how difficult a day it had been with many despondent anglers shaking their heads when asked how it went, but there is always the exception to every rule.
Winning the Tommy Thompson Trophy with an outstanding basket of 10 fish for 9lb 5ozs was a chuffed Sandy McConnachie, others who didn’t come that close included Gary Ballantyne with 9 for 7lb 11ozs, Malcolm Russell with 6 for 7lb 4ozs, Colin Sutherland with 6 for 6lb 5ozs and Jim Bews with 6 for 6lb 4ozs. The heaviest fish was weighed in by Ian Hutcheon and went 2lb 3ozs.

Sandy fished high lines and found success at the Big Ess Holm and Merkister Bay, with Munchkin his best fly pattern. Other flies mentioned in site chat included Cloudski, Erlends Cat, Hutch’s Pennel and Red Arsed Green Peter, thanks to the lads for offering up the info, too few anglers do!
A break for the shows now, then it’s back to Harray for the penultimate competition of the season, already! Tight lines.
