TOUGH CONDITIONS FOR MERKISTER CUP ON HARRAY
What a year of wind and sun! It doesn’t seem to matter the month, the day, evening or day, or the venue, we seem to have had to fight the weather. Saturday was no different, but our anglers are used to it, and some always seem to find a way to put some fish in the boat.
There was a good turnout for the penultimate competition of the season, with 25 anglers setting out at 11am. Some shelter was the primary mission for most boats, with Bochan, Tenston, Merky Bay, Pontooth and Bankhead popular. The quiet water worked for some, but others had to move out to lumpier areas to find fish.
There were some good baskets going about at the weigh in and it was a close result, but ultimately, Thorfinn Muir won the Merkister Cup with 9 fish for for 9lb 4ozs. Erlend Hutchison had 1 more fish with 10 for 8lb 2ozs to take the runner up slot. Others who excelled included, Norman Irvine with 9 for 7lb 3ozs, Ian Hutcheon with 9 for 7lb 3ozs and Brian Foreman with 7 for 6lb 7ozs. Heaviest fish was a belter at 2lb 4ozs to Brian Thompson’s rod. Thanks to Norman Irvine, Jim Harcus and Leslie Miller for the weighing and recording, as slick as ever.
No gen to pass on this week as there’s so much to play for next week, with at least three anglers in the hunt for the Fisherman of the year trophy. I suspect that with next week’s Any Loch competition giving the anglers the choice of all of our main lochs, there could be a lot of them out on manoeuvres this week, trying to gain an edge. Whatever happens, enjoy the last one, and tight lines.
